Leica Gallery Sydney

6 August - 21 October 2026

Exhibition Overview: Phil Penman’s "Street Scenes"

Location: Leica Gallery Sydney (455 George St, Sydney)

Opening Night: Thursday, August 6th

Following his highly anticipated Melbourne showcase, the legendary visual chronicler Phil Penman brings his landmark solo exhibition, "Street Scenes," to the harbor city. Opening at the prestigious Leica Gallery Sydney on August 6th, the exhibition serves as a profound celebration of three decades of urban storytelling and marks the launch of his companion photography book.

Penman’s work has long been defined by a deep, symbiotic relationship with his environment—and his camera of choice. Moving quietly through the chaos of global metropolises, Penman uses the compact nature of Leica cameras to remain virtually invisible, capturing candid interactions that usually vanish in a heartbeat.

Live the Experience: Sydney Weekend Workshop

Coinciding with the exhibition, Sydney-based photographers will have a rare, hands-on opportunity to learn directly from the master himself. Following the opening night, Penman will be hosting an exclusive Leica Akademie Weekend Workshop in Sydney on August 8th & 9th.

This intensive, multi-day masterclass will take participants out onto the streets of Sydney to learn Penman's philosophies on chasing light, framing complex geometry, and mastering the art of observation.
