We host a meeting with the British photographer based in New York Phil Penman, one of the most relevant figures of contemporary street photography, whose work has been consolidated as a visual testimony of urban life and some of the most significant events of our time.

With more than 25 years documenting New York City, Phil Penman has developed a look based on observation, intuition and the ability to anticipate instantly. His work has been published in international reference media and is part of collections such as the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, contributing to the construction of contemporary visual memory.

The meeting proposes a reflection on photography as a tool to understand and preserve reality. The session will begin with an introduction to the Leica universe, by the hand of Javier Liedo, Managing Director of Leica Iberia, addressing its history, its cultural dimension and the role of Leica Akademie and Leica Galleries as spaces dedicated to the formation and dissemination of visual culture.

Next, Phil Penman will share his career and his creative process, delving into his way of working on the street and how his images have evolved into editorial projects, exhibitions and training activities internationally.

The event will continue with a conversation between Phil Penman and Andrea Pacella, Vice President Global Marketing & Communication, focused on the image as the basis of photographic memory and on the role of Leica in a context of constant technological transformation. The current challenges of documentary photography will also be addressed, especially in relation to artificial intelligence and new forms of image creation and dissemination.

To attend, you can book your free ticket in this post. Access will be allowed until the capacity is complete.

This event will be held in English and Spanish with simultaneous translation into Spanish; it will have auditory accessibility measures (magnetic induction loop, LSE and sound amplification by headphones). The meeting can be followed in open streaming on this website and on networks with the hashtag #PhilPenman.
